Valles de Benavente, to the south of DO Tierra de León, currently has VCPRD (quality wine) status in recognition of the efforts of a group of producers to raise winemaking standards in the region.

The association of producers has outlined five aims: control of the quality of wines, the upgrading of vineyards, achieving the full potential of local varieties, the introduction of modern winemaking technology and wine marketing.

In view of the personality of region’s grapes and the favourable continental climate coupled with a determination to raise quality, Valles de Benavente may soon be joining the ranks of the regions with DO status.
